That is a good compromise of character design. Fixing the "human(oid) girl on Halloween costume pretending to be another species" syndrome of the first while keeping a creative sexual dimorphism on the end result to not come off as lazy or uninspired.
Granted, however, that it would still be acceptable to have both looking the same if both look good anyway, like with most Pokemon in existence, but not many media out there get to reach such a recognizable and well-developed art style that they can do that and buy people into the idea. If anything, Pokemon is the exception that proves the rule here.
