Notes:

On the "gold" side you've got games running on the Build Engine that are considered the "holy trinity" of shooters made on said engine, namely Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood. On the "painful, agonizing failure" side you have Build Engine games made by the infamous Capstone, namely Witchaven (basically a mediocre version of Hexen), and a game based on William Shatner's "Tekwar" show from the 90s (the game adaptation is pretty bad for its poorly designed open world, frustrating enemies, and the really bad "Matrix" levels).
