The exact reason why I loathe Hau and Hop on a conceptual level. A rival who is submissive and goes out of the way to become weaker than you is useless.

Atleast Gen 6 spiced it up to have a friend group of different rivals with one classic, one inferior and two who are borderline cases.

I honestly hate fighting Hop because it makes me feel like the bad guy. He's trying his best and all he gets for his hard work is an absolute thrashing. Hell, he even GETS DEPRESSED about it halfway through the game! HOW IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MAKE ME WANT TO FIGHT HIM?!
