You won't like it but I'll say it : Cancel culture is a big part of american culture.
Both sides like to attack public figures for their opinions, both sides like to call for boycott and contact their employers and sponsors. It's an american thing to scream "I want that guy to be unable to find a job".
Just as an aside, though, cancelling rich people/celebrities doesn't do shit. Even if they get fired or lose their jobs they're still gonna be rich and happy. Cancelling people who actually DO have power and influence is mostly beneficial. It's 'cancelling' random idiots who work at Starbucks that's murdery.
