Guys Giving Middle Finger To Hospitalized Brother refers to a selfie photograph of two men giving the middle finger to their brother, who is lying unconscious in a hospital bed after his appendix burst. The photo was originally posted to Reddit's /r/funny subreddit by Redditor u/roster07cock in 2018 with the title "My appendix burst and my brothers are wankers." It became the subject of memes over the following years, including redraws that replaced the people in the photograph with notable characters from various media.
Origin
On May 21st, 2018, Redditor u/roster07cock posted a photo to the subreddit /r/funny[1] depicting his brothers flipping him off while he's lying in a hospital bed after his appendix burst. The post is titled, "My appendix burst and my brothers are wankers." It garnered over 55,000 upvotes in seven years.
Spread
The photo garnered viral spread over the following years. On January 18th, 2019, it was featured in Bored Panda's[2] list of "30 Hilarious Photos That Prove Siblings Are The Biggest Assholes Ever."
On June 5th, Tumblr[3] user shoucolate then posted a redraw of the image depicting the selfie-taker as DC Comics character Dick Grayson, garnering over 9,000 notes in six years.
On November 17th, 2023, Tumblr[4] user chernyskaaa posted a redraw of the photo based on The Owl House, garnering over 7,100 notes in just over a year.
On April 1st, 2024, Instagram[5] user prollycarmen posted a version of the meme featuring characters from the web series So Not My Type that gained over 82,000 likes in 10 months.
On November 19th, Instagram[6] user jericho_artz posted a redraw of the meme based on the characters from Mouthwashing, garnering an undisclosed number of likes in three months.
On February 27th, 2025, the original photo was posted by the X[7] gimmick account @insaneposes, garnering over 14,000 likes in a day. Later that day, X[8] user @2230yt posted a redraw of the meme depicting everyone as Pokémon, garnering over 72,000 likes in a day.
