Although I thought this had changed since they modernized a bit with the Switch, Nintendo is definitely a typical rigid Japanese company. Which is great in some ways, it is what allows them to think out of the box and do their own thing despite the absurd race between its competitors going on around it.

In others, it also means that in many regards, like communication or anything related to the fabled Internet, they still live in the fucking 80s. Any company would BEG for players devoted enough to make even a quarter of what Nintendo fans would do, like the Melee online mod. It's free mass advertising FFS. They would rather refuse the money and free good press they would get by doing absolutely NOTHING, just because they are stuck in a business model outdated by 50 years. It's truly maddening.
