Thing is this could be a legit gag in an episode. Either as a simple cutaway or as the main plot like that one episode when Stewie cloned himself, and if they did the latter then no doubt the show would make a semi cynical self referential joke going "didn't we do this plot already?" "Yeah but the writers stopped giving a [bleep] years ago."

It's a legit gag.
