This reminds me of when I used to read Filibuster, which was done by this Canadian who seemed kind of centerish in his politics (and thus wasn't really biased towards one side or the other) and put little editorials to help explain things happening in the world if the comic itself wasn't immediately obvious (and because he brought up news all around the world, not just the US and Canada, it was very informative).

Anyway, back in 2004, when George W. Bush was running for reelection, he drew a comic where Michel Moore, among other then big critics of him, were holding wads of cash in their hands, shouting "FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!" The point being that given they most talked about, and made their money from, criticizing George during his first four years, they weren't really concerned about politics so much as using politics to make themselves rich off the frustration of the American population.

TLDR: People would rather make money by denouncing an easy target than reporting various kinds of news that take effort and research and/or creating something new and original.
