Meximutt, also known as O Algo or Mateo, is a meme character derived from the Soyjak family of Wojak memes that caricatures Mexicans and Hispanic people through exaggerated facial features and stereotypical imagery. The meme is modeled after Amerimutt, a similar character used to mock Americans, and incorporates the Spanish phrase "o algo," meaning "or something," as a counterpart to Amerimutt's recurring catchphrase.

Originally associated with imageboard culture, particularly SoyBooru, Soyjak.party and 4chan, the character has since spread to mainstream social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where it has been adapted with AI and used in surrealist memes, ironic shitposting and brainrot content.

Origin

Meximutt acts as a counterpart^[1] to Amerimutt, a meme character associated with imageboard culture that caricatures Americans through exaggerated, grotesque facial features. Amerimutt emerged within the broader Soyjak meme family, which developed around 2017.^[2]

The Meximutt meme originated on Soyboru, and was inspired by a notorious user known as Satoko Yoyo Fan, also called satoko_houjou_fan or Shio, who joined the website on October 9th, 2022, and served as a moderator for a time.^[3] Shio identified as Mexican while claiming Germanic ancestry.^[4]

Shio became a target of ridicule through Soyboru's "country wars,"^[5] in which users represented different nations. Representing Mexico, he developed a long-running feud with a user known as Italian_Chad. Other users baited him with pro-Italy and anti-Mexican memes, anticipating his frequent, aggressive responses. His obsessive arguments became a recurring source of ridicule, including the catchphrase "Obsessed brimstone."^[4]

On December 31st, 2023, a user known as Romanian Skipso reportedly shared an edited image mocking Shio. The Soyjak Wiki credits Romanian Schizo, also known as Rosa_Ushiiromiya_Fan and Fatcord, with creating the Meximutt variant by modifying an existing Impish Amerimutt illustration and redrawing it to resemble Shio.^[3][4]

The image subsequently spread to affiliated or otherwise similar sites such as $chan and other image boards.

On October 15th, 2026, TikTok^[7] user @muttyies posted a short clip using the "o algo" catchphrase in an ironic rant about basic human empathy and political double standards. The video received 649,000 views and 72,400 likes in 6 days.

Around October 16th, 2026, TikTok^[8] user @mingyangxiao1 posted a video as part of the emerging "o algo" wave of the Meximutt meme variation. The video received 1.4 million views and 115,000 likes in 5 days.

Around October 16th, 2026, TikTok^[9] user @vorlyne shared another video participating in the "o algo" trend, posting a screenshot of the meme in use on TikTok, with criticism following shortly after scrolling. The post received 1.2 million views and 165,400 likes in 5 days.

On October 17th, 2026, TikTok^[10] user @will.bobkins posted a short video featuring the phrase "yummy chips o algo," leaning into the meme's established format. The video received 915,300 views and 125,200 likes in 4 days.

On October 19th, 2026, TikTok^[11] user @yungoctoberss posted a video criticizing the meme. The video received 1.2 million views and 160,100 likes in 2 days.
