The official terminology actually did stop using the terminology of naming a virus after a country specifically to prevent the rise in hate crimes associated with such, as an interesting fact.

Hence, the marburg virus would not be named the marburg virus if it arose today, and if a virus arose in the US it wouldn't be called, say, "American flu", it would be given a similar name to COVID-19.
