I hate these false equivalencies where a machine that an artist can use to make a particular technique possible, is put on the same level as a machine that does the artist's job for them. See also digital art in general, but this is the first time I've seen it applied to a camera.
And yes, at first there was a pushback against photography being considered an art form as well, but the fact that it takes actual skill and effort to make GOOD photographs won out in the end – as opposed to, say, copy-pasting the right keywords describing the sheer size and shapeliness of your anime waifu's breasts.
I'm pretty sure photographers call themselves artists all the time? I mean, it depends on the type of photos they take obviously, but photography is absolutely considered an art form.
