The Last Of Us (HBO Series) - It even reached Sonic

Well if that reasoning checks out, I like this comment of mine enough I'll repeat myself:

Sonic is tasked with delivering Tails to Dr. Robotnik to create a cure to the corded bots virus but discovers in the last level that Robotnik will needlessly butcher Tails to remove his mechanical genius brain because he doesn't understand how brains work in the slightest.

Then the sequel is built on the premise that Eggman's thirst for vengeance is noble and just, but Tails seeking vengeance against him for brutally murdering Sonic is self-destructive and evil.
