Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog Development files for Super Mario 64 reveal that for most of development, Rainbow Ride was supposed to be fire-themed, calling it "Lethal Lava Land 2" and "Fire Building", which would have been more in line with the Mario series traditionally having lava-themed final levels. Internal names in development files refer to Rainbow Ride as Fire Bubble 2 (note that Lethal Lava Land is referred to as "Fire Bubble 1" internally, making Rainbow Ride "Lethal Lava Land 2"), and Fire Building H Mock-up of how the level could appear if it was fire-themed.
