![ANTZ Repetitive, minimalist ode to workers The kind of thing you'd do paperwork listening to ROBOTS A lot of techy, mechanical sounds Embrace the hivemind Shows how versatile he is THE LORAX An plodding ode to environmentalism Clearly inspired by Liszt it's not even cute CHICKEN RUN HTTYD 2 Explicitly inspired by Wagnerian operas, and it shows P.S. I LOVE YOU SHREK Really sappy romantic score Something 14 and year old girls would love I AM SAM A score about a re[dacted] guy that sounds like it was written by a re[dacted] guy Martial, militaristic backdrop to the best piece of Communist propaganda I've ever seen Seriously, was Powell working with crayons? If it was intentional, it's well-done KNIGHT AND DAY Typical action movie score Sounds whimsical Somehow manages to *sound* English which is an accomplishment adventurous But in Powell fashion; a lot of percussion A very obscure movie from 1999 and a box office bomb...but John Powell's very best work A lot of fun little musical cues and Easter Eggs for other scores/ Shrek films ENDURANCE Great brass solos, use of traditional Ethiop instruments, and time signature manipulation Yes I listen to it when I go on runs and yes I imagine myself as an Ethiop runner RIO Whimsical, vibrant, Brazilian Sounds like the last day of school as a little kid Somehow notches the first score's drama up to 11 Lots and lots of choir X-MEN S----- movie, but Powell really delivered hard on the score Makes it sound like a sweeping adventure movie KUNG FU PANDA 2 The original KFP score, but way less Chinese influence and with a dose of meth Just really, really autistic Kinda just sensory overload all the way though, nothing especially unique Really just sounds phoned-in all around HTTYD The OG and the only reason most people know John Powell 1 So much s--- going on at the same time, sounds like he took the scraps from other scores and put them together and it kinda works Anyway, an excellent, powerful, brass and percussion-heavy score that makes anyone feel like a Viking warrior Wagner is applauding in his grave Lots of Ancient Chinese influences and traditional instruments What an underdog movie all around A bunch of weird space sounds and random ADD distractions SOLO HTTYD 3 ICE AGE 2 Severely neutered from the first two scores, reuses a lot of content and is much more cutesy Legit makes me cry KUNG FU PANDA FACE/OFF Another OG, worked with Hans Zimmer on this one Definitely not my favorite score, sounds like Powell was writing this with CTE John Powell took over the series on the second movie and knocked it out of the park A constant sense of movement and energy Really makes me feel like a kid A PRUSSIAN REQUIEM Not a film score, but an opera written by Powell about Germany in WWI Seriously it's really great, quite bombastic My second-favorite work by him, because he used his wife's death as inspiration for a lot of it His very first film score, and doing so well on it made him famous C You can hear influences on his later scores THE BOURNE MOVIES Typical action fare, I swear I started bleeding bald eagles listening to this A few unique twists, again Powell is great with the percussion THE ROAD TO EL DORADO Another collab with Hans Zimmer Sys HORTON HEARS MARS NEEDS MOMS ICE AGE 3 A WHO Another example of a terrible movie but Powell went hard on the score My fourth-favorite Takes the Powell work, just pure adventure and excitement embodied all the way through Lots of bombastic choir and brass, dripping with the greed of the movie's themes constant energy from Ice Age 2's score and notches it upward Just a really grand sense of adventure and whimsy](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/612/262/504.jpg "My favorite film score composer is John Powell. 5x5 wojak compass of his work: | /r/PoliticalCompassMemes")
