From the recently popular 2011 anime Steins;Gate based off of a visual novel released for the Xbox360 in 2009, Ruka is one of the main characters in the series. From very early on in the series it is confirmed that Ruka is a guy even though he is "more effeminate than any girl". Due to his appearance, he is bullied and harassed a lot.

During the course of the series Ruka asks Okabe to allow him to manipulate time so that he could be born as a girl. This works. However, because of the way that the story unfolds, this series of events is undone and Ruka goes back to being a guy.
