They both worked hard to get their powers, and they both had a pretty good dramatic moment in how to lose said powers and finding ways to be happy regardless. Good lessons to be had either way. MHA could've made it work too, it just started to flounder years before the final battle whereas FMA was peak throughout.

As more time passed, the less I could stand Deku's shenanigans, to the point I had to drop the series… (amongst other reasons) and now I'm super glad I did.

He's like a weird pathetic version of Simon, The Digger… Except Simon was a lowkey badass from the very beginning, and only grew more awesome as the series progressed, instead of stagnating like Deku.

It's poetic both have a kinda similar ending… and yet Simon willingly renounced to his power in order to avoid becoming the Spiral Nemesis; he realized his potential and surpassed his limits many times over, yet he choose to forsake that power for the sake of the universe itself.

Unlike Deku, whom feels like he squandered what he was given, and didn't ever became the ultimate hero the story told us he was going to become at the very start.
