Having your faith in an entire community 'crushed and burned' by the actions of a few pretty much implies that you are heavily generalizing thousands based on the actions of a handful.
The fact that you keep going back and forth says that you are fully aware that there are good and bad people out there, you just can't seem to stop trying to label the entire fandom with one overarching brushstroke based on your most recent experience.
While this is somewhat natural, you should step back and accept that there will always be positive and negative aspects of almost everything.
