Rambo's lessons tend to revolve around her learning to be less aggressive towards her friends and the other ponies, and apart from Twilit, she's been shown to have made the most progress towards her goal of someday joining the Wintercolts, especially in the third season (though with scattered hints throughout the first two.) Despite this, or perhaps because of it, she's also shown to be something of a b--------- enthusiast- again making me question the necesssity of this content in what is clearly meant to be a children's cartoon. Still, they treat her animal abuse with the seriousness it deserves when it comes up, and her relationship with Rambo is shown to be affectionate, if not necessanly healthy Shes one of the few who, like Twilit, is genuinely physically impaired, and here's where that same writing shines again. One of the producers or the writers must either be or have a close family member who is seriously impaired, because they write it so well and so empathically that you understand their struggles so well. Stuttersly, as her name suggests, is both a pathological liar and has horrible speech impediment. However, when it comes down to it, she's shown to be able to force herself to overcome her (clearly trauma-induced) dishonesty and come to help her friends. Her lessons mostly involve her leaming that they will like and accept her, even if she tells them the truth. This tension comes out in every interaction that she has with her, and is masterfully written. Adding to it is the return of Twilit's deadbeat father, Prince Luna, at the end of the pilot, and their attempts to reconcile form a backdrop to many of Twilit's later The Cutter-Mark Crusaders are a clique of ponies who become increasingly important as the show wears on. Younger than the main characters, they show what it society, and their obsession with cutting their marks into everything shows it. Scoolatoo is a pegasus who cant fly, and who idolizes Rambo for her athletic prowess. Their relationship changes a bit after the molestation episode in Season 3, and I for one am morbidly curious as to where that's going to go in Season 4. Sweepie Bell is Rarety's little si despite the horrific abuse heaped on her by her sister (the 'bathtime' episode stands out as so unnecessarily dark that I find it hard to believe this character wasnt executive's nose) she is shown to be consistently cheerful and optimistic and in denial about her si while rambunctious and occasionally insensitive, clearly care about her, and even Gran Ysmit is generally nicer to her than to the others. One of Rambo's few male lovers, Gilder was cruel to Pink and Stuttersly, leading Rambo to seek painful retaliation at one of Pink fueled nature a very memorable villain, because he's shown to be genuinely in love with Rambo - who, of course, does not return his affection even a The next stand-out villain was the villain Chaos, i Despite this, however, he came across as truly menacing during the maze sequence - almost diabolical in how he played to each character's weaknesses. He made Jack realize that the physical act of sex with women would feel much like sex with men, he forced Pink to sober up completely, and he forced himself on Stuttersly- and when that plot point came up in Season 3, you bet they handled it well! The crowning moment that really cemented his cruelty, however, is when he made Twilit aware of just how her autistic behavior made her appear and sound to others. Clutching her stuffed Spock, she fled in one of the most heartbreaking scenes modern cartooning has ever seern e second season opener. Then there's Queen Crystal, who's left at the altar for her younger sister by Twilit's older brother. The whole wedding sequence was incredibly messed up, and while it does deal with the issues of adultery and divorce, I can't help but feel that this arc was one of the writers working out their own problems via the show r forces of King Sunder. Sunder was Evidently, the suits agreed with me, because the very season's opener had Twilit's brother, Sinning Armor, back with Queen Crystal, this time against the si used as an antagonistic force, like Sauron from Lord of the Rings, rather than as an actual enemy - he only appeared at the very end, and his motives and methods were never really explained, but he did c a wonderful sense of looming menace IP INjpo9Zv.g 08/31/13(Sat)02:43 No. 13226276 I saved one of the best villains for last, because Season 3 really closed out her arc well. Dixie was a showpony who came to Ponyville in Season 1, and was unnecessarily cruel to poor autistic Twilit who didn't understand most of her act. Eventually, however, Dixie was revealed to be a p--------, who had lured two young colts to her wagon with the intention of molesting them, then feeding them to the bear that was part of her act. Fortunately, Twilit and her friends showed up in time to stop Dixie, and Dixie fled, leaving her fate dangling. Then, in season 3, Dixie returns with new powers and a new act - and this time, she's not looking to m----- children, but Twilit herselfl Twilit flees town, and after some training with token zebra Sycorax, returns to confront Dixie Dixie allows her desire for Twilit to overcome her good sense, and so Twilit is able to beat her - only for Dixie to realize what a monster she is, and leave to get proper treatment for her problems No All in all, My Little Pony: Friendship is Mystical has many good things to recommend it. However, it's the characters, and their relationships to each other, that really make it stand out from the rest. hope you enjoyed my review of this fantastic show, and I look forward, like many of you, to seeing what happens in it for season 4!
