But then, really, the only way we're going to actually eliminate gender based inequality is to eliminate gender entirely either by becoming robots who live in the future, or bio-re-engineering ourselves into functionally hermaphroditic species to ensure that everyone faces the same basic sets of biologically based choices as they go through life.

Because that's what a level playing field looks like.

Alternatively, we can accept that there will always be a certain degree of unfairness because the world is a jackass and the best we can do is try not to be assholes about it to each other. I won't say that doesn't work or isn't working but sometimes it's really hard to tell, isn't it?
