I'm pretty sure he only said he'd see Primape again. He released Butterfree to be with it's mate, he released Pidgeot to protect the Pidgeys and Pidgeottos of the forest, Lapras was never his to begin with (he was just taking it to it's herd), and Charizard(?) is with him now, right? Primape is off the face of the earth.
