Notes:

Before I get into why what this conversation implies is an interesting point of discussion I want to go into greater depth about what I myself said in this conversation. While it should be obvious that GamerGate is about journalistic integrity and corruption to anyone who doesn't smack themselves in the head with a brick in their spare time, there are some people on our side who are saying misogynistic and intolerant things, giving us a bad name. While I know a lot of us like to pretend that these people don't exist and that all of the alleged harassment is made up, I think it would be pretty stupid to say that nobody on our side is being a complete ass. I do not however think that that should in any way be correlated with the identity of gamers. Gamers are a completely inclusive group defined simply by whether people play video games regularly.

Now that that's out of the way, it's time to discuss why I think this conversation is interesting. Ian Miles Cheong has become a prominent figure in GamerGate recently with many of his tweets being included in anti-sjw image compilation things (surprisingly none of them are on KYM).There has been a lot said about Ian, all of which I was unaware of before talking to him on twitter. I see that a lot of his tweets are seemingly attacking all Gamers and I'm not going to deny that that is the case. When he talked to me though he seemed to act differently. While he has done plenty of name calling ('piss babies' comes to mind), from what I've seen of his one-on-one discussions, including my own, is that he is able to discuss GamerGate sensibly when justifying his position.

While I still completely disagree with him, he seemed polite enough when a conflicting, but non-extremist opinion was presented. While I do think that his views on this controversy are ridiculous to say the least and what he's said about "Gamer Culture" is kind of offensive, he doesn't seem to harbour contempt towards any individuals who have remained passive and have more open and compromising viewpoints (egostroke egostroke). I don't know. I'm sure that a lot of you will disagree with me, which you're completely entitled to do, It just seems that if someone like Ian is able to discuss this reasonably maybe there are other anti-GamerGate people who aren't as bad as their incriminating tweets would imply…
