Until you resorted to "It's just a movie."

True excellence in screenplay is to give believable reasons for the things we expect movies to get wrong regardless of the fact that it's "just a movie", when we criticise a movies failings it's because the film did so much else right. We're not pointing out how bad the movie is – we're pointing out how good it is.
