My blunt answer? Whiny bitches are salty that a 13+ year-old game got more solo entrants than a (basically) brand-new one.

ANYTHING having to do with Melee being successful is met with negative reception, ESPECIALLY when other Smash titles are involved. I'm well aware of how toxic the Melee community can be, but responding back with toxicity is not the answer.
