Black Lives Matter protests and riots spreading across the world and the message of police abolition reaching liberal circles I thought it was worth explaining how the police formed, why they don't exist to reform, protect or punish social harms, and why police abolitionist really do want to end policing and prisons. This isn't a Utopian vision; but the only way to deal with the problems in society.
