This isn’t an example of a single meme, but it is an example of how meme culture and use has spread from fun on the internet to Serious Business.

http://community.statesmanjournal.com/blogs/politics/2013/02/05/the-senate-republicans-offer-visual-interpretation-of-democrats-agenda/

The Republican Party in Oregon made a meme to criticize the Democratic-controlled legislature’s agenda. The Democratic party then fired back accusing the Republican party of trying to astroturf memes.

Is this the future of our nation’s political debate?

Well I guess there’s one thing we should say about this…

…but it’s meme research, so it’d be off topic.

Well I have no idea about this, but it seems somewhat notable already, just there isn’t much reception.

There used to be a phrase “the internet is leaking” but I think now the dam is broken.

Not only is the internet leaking, it is bleeding profusely. Astroturf everywhere.
