Okay, I need major helpage on research for this one.

Suicide Squid is an incredibly old Usenet meme originating from a typo caused when a user was asking about recent events in the comic series "Suicide Squad". It eventually renamed the Rec.Arts.Comics Awards as "The Squiddy Awards", which claimed to be the oldest-running online comic awards.

Now this is where things get hard. According to Wikipedia, the first instance of this was 1991. Also, the last awarded Squiddy was in 2004, when Google went public, further complicating research.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd hate to see this meme go unnoticed, when, for at least a moment, Suicide Squid ranked up there with Invisible Pink Unicorn and Flying Spaghetti Monster as popular obscure internet characters.

Everything2 confirms the 1991 (April they say) claim with a link to a ftp folder with all the archives. Sadly, it doesn't seem to work.
