On June 6th, 2007, magnets99 uploaded a clip called “Dramatic Look” featuring footage of a prairie dog from the Japanese TV Show Hello! Morning. As of February 2010, this instance alone has over 19 million views.

“Dramatic Chipmunk” is the name of a popular re-upload uploaded to Youtube by credgets on June 19th, 2007. As of February, 2010, the video has over 18 million views.

CollegeHumor also hosted a version of the video, calling it "Dramatic Chipmunk on the same day.

By June 20th, multiple instances of the same footage were being reblogged all over the web.
Dramatic Chipmunk appeared on I am bored, BoingBoing, Comedy Central Insider and more.

In the days folloing, GigaOm’s Mathew Ingram recognized the Dramatic Chipmunk as a meme, and certain influential new-media types were creating their own “dramatic look” videos, like iJustine, Veronica Belmont, and Drew Olanoff.
