About
Meme Expert is a Memegenerator image macro created by EDiots (members of the Encyclopedia Dramatica community) as a satirical statement about the concept of explaining memes, based upon an erroneous Encyclopedia Dramatica article.
Excerpt from archived article:
Rocketboom hired YouTube partner mememolly in July, 2009 to anchor their "webshow". The show consists of some cunt attempting humor while ineptly explaining a particular meme.
But, Molly isn't on Know Your Meme?
Most of Encyclopedia Dramatica is written as satire. Like many wikis, (especially those that do not require citations) it is prone to inaccuracies based on misconceptions.
One of which, was the idea that Rocketboom Daily host, MeMe Molly hosted the Know Your Meme video series.
To someone who has never watched either show, this is an understandable mistake. Her name is sometimes written as mememolly although in this case, "meme" is an old nickname Molly had as a child. (source: conversation with Molly)
As of September 2nd, 2010, the Encyclopedia Dramatica entry about Know Your Meme still contains mention of Molly, despite the fact that she hosts a different show on the Rocketboom network entirely.
The Macro Itself
The individual pictures involved in this meme feature the text of a meme usually being misexplained superimposed on Molly's face. Sometimes, however, the text takes the form of accusations of plagiarism from ED, which is against KYM policy.
Rocketboom's reception of the meme.
Rocketboom staff became aware of Meme Expert while still in the "Shit Tier" stage on April 29th, 2010. But it quickly grew to "Fuck Yeah Tier."
Within the first week of May, Meme Expert caught the attention of Keyboard cat creator Brad O'Farrell, who posted it to hisTumblr.
Excerpt:
Molly: why.
BradOFarrell@gmail.com: molly
BradOFarrell@gmail.com: you’re a legit meme now
Molly: no.
Molly: why does this exist.
BradOFarrell@gmail.com: you can’t “no.” this one away
Molly: hahaha
Initially Molly was not a huge fan of the meme, but to the rest of the Rocketboom staff (less than 20 people) and other who knew her, it became a beloved inside-joke, highlighting both the ignorance of some EDiots, and as a method of good-natured teasing at her expense. Eventually, Molly herself grew to love the meme.
Know Your Meme admins discover Meme Expert
Although it took some time, Captain Blubber took notice of Meme Expert, emailing the other mods.
Public Acknowledgement
Meme Expert made its first appearance in a Know Your Meme episode in the background of a never-released episode about Bros Icing Bros.

When it finally came time for the Rocketboom network to create new channels for each of their shows, new promo videos needed to be created as reminders that the videos would be appearing elsewhere.
Because previous promos incorporated members of other Rocketboom shows, Chris Menning was struck with the idea of having Molly appear as "Meme Expert." Being the good sport that she is, Molly decided to play along.
