About

Adalia Rose is an American girl with a fatal genetic condition called Progeria. The word Progeria comes from the Greek progeros meaning ‘prematurely old’. Progeria affects children and gives them an appearance of accelerated aging. Children with Progeria are born looking healthy. When they are about 10 to 24 months old, features of accelerated aging start to appear. They become thin and start to lose hair and their face grows abnormally.

Origin

The earliest Adalia Rose threads began popping up on /b/ sometime in 2011. They weren’t bad-- most of the photoshopped images in the threads were just cute. It eventually reached websites like Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr in early 2012.

Spread

Adalia Rose has had a Facebook page made by her parents.

A new form of trolling that /b/ and Facebook users use is give a link to a video of her dancing to the main theme of “Lilo and Stitch”, telling them to mute the volume, and then play a song (usually explicit) such as “Rack City” by Tyga.

Sadly, around July 15th, a Facebook page called ‘Stop the aliens before its to late’ was created. This page posted images of Adalia photoshopped in alien movies or just captioned pictures, making fun of her striking appearance and saying she’s an alien. Lots of people are upset and are flooding the ‘Stop the aliens before its to late’ page. A group called “‘Stop The Aliens Before Its To Late’ Page Needs TO GO DOWN!” was created on July 17th and has 1,468 members as of August 3rd. Various other pages were created, defending Adalia and her family.

A death rumor was spread by the same people around July 25th, and Adalia’s mother responded on her Facebook page on the 27th: “NO ADALIA HAS NOT PASSED AWAY!! She is healthy and happily sleeping in her bed having sweet dreams! ♥”

The “Stop the aliens before its to late” page was taken down on the 26th, and a new one was made titled “Stop The Aliens Before it’s too late.” It only has 392 likes as of August 3rd.

Since then, Adalia Rose threads are still popping up on /b/ a lot.
