Gus Kund (or possibly Frank Evins), better known by his YouTube persona 'Perfume444', is a 55 year old man from Glendale, California. His passion for Perfume, a Japanese technopop group, has spawned numerous videos of him showing his love for the three girls, often in the form of comedy skits. Some of the more controversial clips to have attracted trolls include smooching a giant projected image of them on his wall and singing to them in the nude, the latter of which was removed shortly after posting. The general reaction to his videos by the people of YouTube range from love to dismay, as it usually requires a deal of knowledge of Perfume to understand the humour in the first place.

Rise to Fame

He gained particular notoriety on the web when he released a video titled "Happy Birthday Kashiyuka !!" on the 11th of January, 2011, which involved him giving the aforementioned Perfume member truffles and dancing with a cut-out of her head whilst she saw him as a sugar-glider feeding her nuts. (the in-joke as described by an updated version of the same video being that Kashiyuka owns a pet sugar-glider and can only think of that in place of Perfume444) The video was quickly circulated across 4chan, drawing the attention of many new viewers from the boards, often trying to decipher whether he was serious or a troll.

As a result, this particularly controversial video was hit with over 151,000 views in less than two days, a far cry from his usual view count of only a couple thousand hits. A number of creations on Meme Generator about him and a spotlight on FuckYeahTrollFace on Tumblr further added to his rise to weeaboo fame.

The infamous birthday video was removed shortly after being circulated heavily on Tumblr, but a new edited version with annotations explaining his original intent was uploaded. Several mirrors of the original video still exist.

Fall and Return

On the 14th of January Perfume444 released a video entitled "My Final Video" detailing that he was to leave this video up for a week's time, but afterwards remove all videos of himself from his channel because of the pressure put on him by the controversial birthday video. Later that same day however he posted another video titled "Thank You Everyone !" announcing that he will not be leaving YouTube after an influx of support from the previous video.

By this time the page of Perfume444 on Meme Generator was removed as were many of his more controversial videos, but exposure on Tumblr and 4chan still continues.
