About

Robot Arena 2: Design and Destroy is a 2004 computer game made by Gabriel Entertainment. It is the sequel to Robot Arena. It has many new features, such as the Havok physics engine, fully 3-D environments (This includes being able to flip over other robots), and total customization of your robot. This includes chassis design, weapon placement, mechanics, and even paint. The "cheatbot" code from the original returns, this time offering a Hovercraft Engine, a Magnet, a Flamethrower, and a Cannon (Though an upgrade patch is required for the cheat to take effect). Weapons are completely customizable, including things such as mounting weapons on various attachments, such as poles, disks, and tri-bars. Although the original was not received well by players, this game has a very small (but dedicated) fanbase and small communities for the game are still active today. Including 2 versions of the game:

Stock RA2: The original version of RA2 using only parts from the original game
DSL: A community built mod which acts as a standalone version of the game featuring new components, Arenas, AI Robots(Some based off of real competitors ex. Hypno-Disc, Biohazard, Nightmare etc. and upgraded versions of the stock bots)

The game was based on popular Robotic Combat TV shows such as Robot Wars, Battlebots and Robotica

Spinner from the West

Spinner from the west (also known as SFTW), gained fame for its entry into the BBEANS3 tournament, where it did not win any of its matches.
It is sarcastically recognized as the absolute best bot ever built that has never won an actual fight in combat.

In tournaments, when splash time comes, the robot judged as the worst fighter of all is often dubbed "SFTW". Mainly used for just one robot, but it is not uncommon to see two or three bots dubbed as SFTW's.
The term "SFTW" has become very popular – it is used in every tournament at least once. A few demotivational posters and captioned pictures have been created to include the original Spinner from the West, mainly used as a mark of fail.

Use of Spinner from the West has also been on Youtube and many other RA2 tournaments created on the official RA2 Forums, it has also spawned an Advice Dog image set also.

EMERGENCY

See more on Know Your Meme

Emergency is a stock AI flipper robot that many newbies to the game find impossible to beat.
This is of course not true, even if it's considered as the better HW of the stock AI.

Emergency features some decent frontal defense (4 ramplates) the most powerful flipper in all Stock AI (Double DDT), the most powerful drive (4WD HP Z-tek, tied with SnowJob) and the better armor (Double Strength Steel). However, it's not as effective as it could potentially be, because he can't do any decent damage with only the ramplates. Wedge quality is average, but it makes up for this by sometimes gaining enough leverage in its flippers to self-right.
Also the only bot near 800kg, the other HW's being around 450-550.

It is also one of the fastest of the AI bots in stock

Havok Explosions

Time: 2:55

The dreaded Havok explosion (name comes from the Havok game engine), also called a "havok", happens often when you rip off an external powered component, like pistons or motors (look at The Boxer or Ripblade).
It creates an invisible anomaly that behaves like a landmine: when you come close to it, you have a big chance to be tossed randomly and apparently with no reason. Sometimes, the same component can create several havok explosions.
Havok explosions range from a small push that will unbalance your bot and raise one or your sides, like if you were flipping a heavyweight with a Snapper2, to "teleporting" a bot OOTA (most likely just an extremely high speed propulsion that is so fast the bot goes through the walls)
Extremely annoying (if unfair) because it can make you lose easily, or funny (but still unfair) if the other bot havoks.

Havoks can also happen in many other games by the Havok Source such as Skyrim and many others
