About

Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue Fanfiction refers to fanfiction written about Canadian ice-skating duo Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue. The duo has inspired fanfiction beginning in the mid-2010s, which saw an uptick in the lead-up to and during the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Origin

Of note, Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue are not dating, but have been skating together for roughly two decades.[2] Nevertheless, their relationship has inspired romantic fanfiction about the couple. Fanfiction about the duo first began appearing on Archiveofourown[3] starting with "The realist and hopeless romantic," posted by iridescentglow on March 10th, 2013.

The realist and the hopeless romantic iridescentglow Summary: A typical rom-com - he loves her, she loves him, but somehow they're not a couple - with a gripping denouement on the golf course.

Spread

Over the course of the following several years, over 120 pieces of fanfiction were uploaded to Archiveofourown.[4] A significant uptick in fanfictions and artwork about the couple came in the lead-up to their routine in the 2018 Winter Olympics. For example, Tumblr user bevsi uploaded fan art of the duo, gaining over 2,800 notes (shown below).

On February 19th, 2018, Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue performed a routine set to music from Moulin Rouge! at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The routine was notable for its sexual charge, and in fact one of their moves was banned for being too sexy for the games.[1]

Following their performance, three more pieces were submitted to Archiveofourown. Twitter user @Cam_Oflage[5] tweeted an Expanding Brain meme about the duo, with all the options reading synonyms for the duo having sex. On February 20th, Select All[6] covered the prevalence of fanfiction.
