Shrek Fedora, otherwise known as Shrekbeard(a portmanteau of "Shrek" and "neckbeard") is a photoshopped reaction image of the character Shrek wearing a fedora typically used in response to posts criticizing religion on social media, referencing the “*tips fedora*” internet meme associated with militant atheism online.
Origin
On July 6th, 2014, Tumblr user gamebae[4] posted a photoshopped picture of Shrek with a neckbeard tipping a fedora with the caption "get out of m'swamp" (shown below). Over the next several years, the post gained over 77,700 notes.

On December 22nd, 2014, the image was included in a BuzzFeed[5] listicle titled "23 Photos That Are Either Really Good Or Really Bad." On July 25th, 2017, the @ThinkAtheist Twitter feed tweeted "Apparently the "shrek fedora" meme is the newest tend in "attacking" #atheist twitter accounts" (shown below).[1] That tweet has since been removed.

On April 28th, 2017, Redditor Morn_sc submitted the image to /r/justneckbeardthings.[6] On August 27th, YouTuber Onision tweeted a photo of a flooded street in Houston, Texas along with the message "There are a lot of Christians in Texas, so any of you want to explain your god doing this?" (shown below, left).[2] That day, YouTuber %%% %%%% posted a video showcasing replies to Onision's tweet with the Shrek Fedora image (shown below). The following day, Redditor RolfIsSonOfShepnard submitted the video to /r/YouTubeHaiku,[3] where it gathered upwards of 2,000 points (97% upvoted) and 60 comments.

On November 5th, 2017, actor Wil Wheaton replied to a tweet posted by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan about sending prayers to those affected by the 2017 Sutherland Springs church shooting.[7] In response, many Twitter users replied with variations of the Shrek Fedora reaction image (shown below).
