No joke: Last semester in college, I had to give an informational speech for my public speaking class. I ran a minute over the time limit and didn't get to complete all of my conclusion, and I spent the next few weeks tearing myself up, telling myself that I bombed the speech and got a low score. My teacher allowed us one re-do of a speech if we scored a C or D grade in one, and I begged him to give me my score for it so I could rework it and get a better grade. Eventually he gave me it, I took one look, saw I scored a 79, and went "C+?! I knew it was bad, but I expected worse. Oh well, it's a C grade, so I can re-do it!" I planned and reworked my speech and slideshow, and when the re-do date came up, I went to the teacher and asked to do so. He looked at my grade and said "Why would you want to? You got a B+."
Turns out, my failure riddled mind read the 89% grade as a 79% grade.
