The Emoji Movie - XKCD, still relevant

Well, the point about language being cool and weird is interesting. I mean, you could probably argue that that kind of direct symbol isn't language at all, but then you get into a discussion about how verbal and non-verbal communication work together, and… Whatever, the point is that whether emoji are a valid form of communication is completely unrelated to the quality of the movie. Is that an actual argument people were making?

Thing with emoji: they are very often overused and/or used in the wrong context. Also people some times give emojis an obscure context they do not originally have, and for some groups of peole such extra-context might be completely different.

This makes emojis aside from the very basic ones an extremely unreliable way to convey any information or emotions
