I Like To Wear Sunglasses refers to a redraw meme inspired by a skit video in which a woman explains their reason for wearing sunglasses is that "nobody can tell what you're looking at," but then she obviously stares directly at a nearby woman's breasts. Redraws of the sketch are typically done with yuri ships from animated television shows.

Origin

At some point before December 14th, 2022, an unknown Douyin user uploaded a video featuring a woman explaining her reason for wearing sunglasses. She says sunglasses make it so people can't see what you're looking at, but then lowers her head and obviously stares at a nearby woman's breasts. That day, Twitter^[1] user tednosaur posted the screenshot, saying they'd found it. The image is watermarked "@julyjazia," which may be a Weibo^[6] user.

Spread

The image began seeing use in redraws as early as December 2022. For example on December 14th, 2022, Twitter / X^[2] user @tednosaur uploaded Genshin Impact fan art that received more than 1,300 reposts and 8,000 likes in two years (shown below, left). On August 2nd, 2023, Twitter / X^[3] user @tomseachi uploaded Honkai Star Rail fan art and received more than 3,800 reposts and 18,000 likes in one year (shown below, right).

On May 10th, 2024, Twitter / X^[4] user @velsmells uploaded Overwatch fan art with a different format. The post received over 3,200 reposts and 30,000 likes in three weeks (shown below, left). On May 18th, 2024, Twitter / X^[5] user @linhcoris uploaded Gushing Over Magical Girls fan art that received more than 2,600 reposts and 19,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
