One of the things that I liked about Spy vs Spy was that it's hard to tell who's going to win. Sometimes one does a surprise that we didn't see coming, but they still have the one with the clear plan win just enough that we can't be sure what will happen.

But with Gray, it's just "oh boy, I can't imagine who could possibly win this one." Few surprises

Ah, not to worry. In a nutshell the character rarely shows up in the strip's formula, but is essentially an obnoxious troll that invariably wins over the staple spies. …Much to the insufferable joy of viewers for the past 58 years.
