Let me start off by saying that if you do WW2 reenacting as a German THAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A NAZI. Having said that – I don’t believe what Chuck said about the hat for a second. I’m a reenactor, and you don’t just pick up other reenactor’s items during a battle and keep them. Also, it’s not just the pin that is SS, it’s the hat as well. All that’s missing is the SS-Adler (SS-Eagle) above the death’s head pin or on the left side of the cap (http://www.johkaz.co.uk/hunter/SSGJ2.jpg). If you reenact as a German, just come out and say it!

There may be a non-Nazi explanation. Purportedly from Chuck (via Reddit):
“Hi everyone! Thanks for buzz regarding the commercial, just wanted to address the pin on my hat. I’m part of the California historical group who does WW2 reenactments. I’m part of the US 2nd infantry division and I retrivied (sic) the pin in a battle against the 12th SS. I apologize if this offended anyone, hope you can enjoy the video for what it is.
