On one hand, his idea of "home" might just be his usual haunt, or a homeless camp secreted in some overlooked place. I also approve highly of giving out that much money with no expectation of it coming back around.

It's always better to give a homeless person actual food or the train ticket as opposed to money. I know it sounds absolutely horrible for me to say this but you really do have to be careful, you never know what they'll spend your money on.
