About

Ex Hitman Reacts To X or That's What I Woulda Did refers to an audio track and exploitable clip used on TikTok and other platforms of former Mafia hitman John Alite responding to Hitman 3 gameplay footage depicting murders. In memes, the audio is spliced into unrelated gameplay and also into other on-screen situations. Alite watches a character onscreen kill another and pronounces, "that's what I woulda did," praising the professionalism and quality of the hit. In April 2024, the meme format went viral on TikTok as it was edited into a range of different videos.

Origin

On October 10th, 2022, the YouTube channel Gamology posted a video in its "Experts React" series featuring ex-Mafia hitman John Alite reacting to Hitman 3.[1] The video (seen below) received over 2.6 million views and 84,000 likes over the course of a year and a half.

Alite was a hitman for the Gambino crime family, advancing rapidly in the ranks and claiming to be involved in several murders as a hitman. His testimony was key to the case that attempted to bring down mob boss John Gotti in 2008.[2]

Spread

A clip from the Gamology video circulated widely online, with many making jokes and reposting it. An early and viral example of memers posting the audio with unrelated gameplay footage was posted to TikTok by user @feetandtoesguy on April 17th, 2024, earning over 2 million views and 303,000 likes in a week for depicting Alite commenting on a Chinese-language game of smartphone billiards (shown below).[3]

More TikTokers continued pairing the audio with different types of footage. For example, on April 21st, TikTok user @chxxlr paired it with Call of Duty gameplay footage and earned over 52,000 likes and 303,000 views in the course of two days (seen below, left).[4]

On April 22nd, 2024, TikToker @deff_alt8 posted a version incorporating rizz content and the TikTok Rizz Party, earning over 70,000 likes and 368,000 views in one day (seen below, right).[5]
