Lauren Faust was involved in the making of both PPG and MLP: FiM. Thus, both shows share a similar quality of character depth and story development. It only stands to reason, then, that if you watched PPG when you were younger and gave MLP a try now, you'd likely enjoy it.
That being said, the caption isn't true all of the time and I don't see why posting that image was in any way necessary. But to each his/her own, I suppose.
