About
El BBL is a song that went viral in May 2024 as part of the "BBL Drizzy" contest related to the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake feud on social media. Unlike other remixes in the contest, "El BBL" does not use the "BBL Drizzy" beat and is instead an original merengue composition by Sammy Andaluz. The song additionally inspired dances and praise on social media.
Origin
On May 7th, 2024, musician Sammy Andaluz, under the TikTok handle @woulfmansam,[1] posted a video as an entry into Metro Boomin's "BBL Drizzy" contest. Unlike other entries, which use Metro Boomin's "BBL Drizzy" beat, Andaluz created an original merengue composition called "El BBL" with the lyrics "El Drake! BBL, BBL." The TikTok gained over 6,700 likes in two days (shown below).

The track began spreading widely on TikTok as users viewed it as part of the global pile-on on Drake during his feud with Kendrick Lamar. For example, on May 7th, 2024, TikToker @zekudi[3] posted a TikTok claiming the track was evidence that Drake had lost the feud, gaining over 145,000 likes in one day (shown below, left).
The same day, user robbyarroyosmith[4] posted a dance to the song, gaining over 65,000 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).

On May 8th, Twitter / X user @chillvrybvnks[2] posted a link to the Spotify upload for "El BBL" and went viral on the platform, gaining over 11,000 retweets and 29,000 likes in one day (shown below).

The virality of the tweet caused "El Drake" to trend on Twitter, as users expressed appreciation for the song. For example, Twitter user @CoachKandaka[5] posted a meme with the song on May 9th, 2024, gaining over 75 likes in less than one day (shown below).
