Thour 🍋 is a redraw trend that started on Twitter in May of 2024. The trend involves artists drawing various characters eating a lemon, and then puckering their faces so hard that their faces disappear.

Origin

On September 19th, 2019, Twitter user @PetrichorCrown^[6] Posted artwork of a cat tasting a lemon, causing their face to retract, with the caption"Am I a comic artist now?". This post gained 6.6 thousand retweets and over 19,000 likes in 5 tears. {shown below)

Spread

On June 4th, 2023, Twitter user @cki_0xn^[7] posted artwork of a bird tasting a lemon, causing the same retraction. The piece gained over 56,000 retweets and 189,000 likes in one year (shown below).

On May 4th, 2024, Twitter artist and VTuber CenoCrocodile^[1] posted artwork of their crocodile character eating a lemon, captioning the piece "Thour." The artwork (shown below) received over 215,000 likes, and over 34,000 retweets in six days.

This sparked a wave of artists jumping on the trend. Over the following several days, myriad artists used the piece as a redraw template. For example, on May 4th, 2024, Twitter user @MAO_ComicArtLab^[2] posted a variation with @tempura_person's OC "Small Tora", gaining over 100 retweets and 1,200 likes in six days (shown below, left). On May 9th, user @Varleitt^[3] posted a variation with VTuber character Gawr Gura, gaining over 440 retweets and 3,600 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Other examples include a May 9th variation by user @Sususususulang^[4] that featured Vaporeon, gaining over 340 retweets and 2,300 likes in one day (shown below, left). On May 5th, user Pt0H2^[5] posted an example with VTuber Amelia Watson, gaining over 170 retweets and 1,600 likes in five days (shown below, right).
