The fundamental problem with asking if there's life is that there probably is tons of bacteria and such in the universe, but the requirements for non-extremophiles to flourish are extremely narrow.

What I mean by this is that Europa has a very good chance of life, but they're all probably bacteria and such. The's a good chance that originally Mars did have life, but cause of the lack of a magnetic pole, the radiation and the thin atmosphere the planet is probably more sterile than a person getting punched in the dick by Saitama.

"Is there life near us?" Probably, but chances are they're all bacteria and single celled extremophiles.

"Is there intelligent life near us?" Probably not anywhere close. If we have interstellar space travel we might run into a planet once in a while with multi-cellular organisms or even animals, but considering how harsh the universe is intelligent life in the universe is about as common as finding intelligence on a tumblrina blog. . . It doesn't help that our local area in space is really hostile, like jesus christ do we live in a bad neighborhood and it's shear dumb luck that we haven't been wiped out yet.

We'll probably find intelligent life, but it's probably gonna take hundreds of years to get there though.
