We might not always be aware of it, but the world can be a pretty scary place. Sometimes it's only scary in the sense that we perceive things as unsettling for no reason other than bad lighting or an unfortunately timed snapshot. Other times, it's scarier in a deeper sense, but sometimes, even that can come off as odd, such as in cases like Hurricane Hilary, which recently left the West Coast of the United States feeling pretty oddly terrified.
But while these things can have a strange emotional impact on us, they're also pretty entertaining to scroll through when they're simply digital images we can view from afar. Some of the things people have discovered out there are well worth a look, even if they make your skin crawl for a reason you can't quite explain. Here are just a few of those times when something relatively mundane about the world became oddly terrifying.
