This Closed Chicago Aquarium Let Out Their Penguins For Some Fun
In light of the Coronavirus globally impacting all offices, stores, restaurants, concerts, and bars, many are left with their creativity to ease the anxiety of others who are unsure of what will happen next. One wonderful place that is seizing this opportunity, is the visitor-less Shedd Aquarium in Chicago that is using its Twitter account to let their followers witness their own penguins roaming free.
Wellington the penguin was able to visit other fishes in his spare time, and Annie and Edward went on a joint date to explore the aquarium's rotunda. After these videos began to spread on Twitter, users couldn't help but express their joy in the aquarium's content and replied with requests for more in the coming days.
Penguins in the Amazon?! 🐧🌴Some of the penguins went on a field trip to meet other animals at Shedd. Wellington seemed most interested in the fishes in Amazon Rising! The black-barred silver dollars also seemed interested in their unusual visitor. pic.twitter.com/KgYWsp5VQD

While this may be a strange time for us, these days feel normal for animals at Shedd. Our caregivers are constantly providing new experiences for the animals to explore and express their natural behaviors with. Let us know what penguin activities you would like to see! The adventure continues! 🐧🐧This morning, Edward and Annie explored Shedd’s rotunda. They are a bonded pair of rockhopper penguins, which means they are together for nesting season. Springtime is nesting season for penguins at Shedd, and this year is no different! (1/3) 👇 pic.twitter.com/VdxN3oQAfe

Many couldn't believe how emotional they were getting.
I don’t think I should be this emotional watching penguins freely roam, but here I am. pic.twitter.com/XguvQBbhzo

People started placing their own requests for more content.
Please bring them to the otters. The internet would lose its mind.

A 24-hour live stream might be necessary.
You could livestream penguins wandering around Shedd all day, and I’d watch it all day. It’s wonderful.

They are now our overlords.
I, for one, welcome our new Penguin Overlords.

One made a valid point to ask why there is never anyone at the information desk.
Never anyone at the information desk when you need them.

They even got invitations to visit other places.
If they'd like to roam our empty reading rooms next we may be able to make that happen.

It's been a rough time for us all, so we appreciate this aquarium's effort to bring a smile to our faces.
I… I love them. Thank you for this bright spot in a tough week!

After requests for more content, the aquarium promised to bring more to Twitter.
We plan to! Without guests in the building, our animal caretakers are planning even more creative activities for the penguins and other animals.
