Retroslop, sometimes spelled Retro Slop, is a slang term describing Roblox players who try to embrace a retro Roblox aesthetic by using old items and styles on their avatars, but ruin and misrepresent the look by also using modern items and aesthetics, often giving the avatar a messy, overwhelming appearance. Players with retroslop avatars are often portrayed as posers, trying to pass off their modern and user-generated content (UGC) items as retro and falsely claiming that they started playing Roblox earlier than they did to claim they're "retro." The term was popularized online in June 2025, inspiring memes that make fun of the retroslop style. That month, TikToker @elio.aaa posted a video in which, dressed in retroslop, he chases a player as they say, "On my mama get that retroslop out of here," inspiring its own set of memes. The term "retroslop" uses the slang "slop" as a suffix, which is often used to criticize a given subject.

Origin

It is unclear who coined the slop term "retroslop" directly relating to Roblox. The term is used to criticize people who misrepresent the retro Roblox aesthetic by poorly mixing retro aesthetic items and accessories, sometimes described as those released between 2006 and 2013, with modern items and accessories.

One of the earliest known criticisms of this aesthetic that uses a similar term, "retro bait slop," is a starter pack meme posted by Redditor u/handsomeboy23344 to the /r/bloxymemes^[1] subreddit on January 19th, 2025, garnering over 980 upvotes in five months.

The term "retroslop" gained notable virality online throughout late May and June 2025, as people began posting memes and further criticizing Roblox players who were associated with the term.

Between May 28th and June 6th, 2025, at least three posts were made to the /r/RobloxAvatars^[2][3] and /r/RobloxAvatarReview^[4] subreddits by users asking about their retroslop avatars.

On June 16th, TikToker^[5] @subaru.insta posted a video making fun of retroslop players, garnering over 614,000 views in a week. In the video, he pretends to be a retroslop player and offers narration in which he acts as if he represents retro Roblox players.

On June 18th, 2025, TikToker^[6] @blockboy_192 posted a comedy video in which a Roblox player enters an Experience and is harassed by a retroslop player demanding "retro" aesthetics, specifically asking for Gubbys, a reference to a non-retro Roblox character that is often said to be enjoyed by retroslop players, garnering over 2.3 million views in five days.

That same day, Redditor u/Little_Investment888 made a post to the /r/roblox^[7] subreddit titled, "some people are mad about 'Retroslop' avatars," writing in the post, "I can’t imagine myself being mad just because someone’s avatar looks like this, I might just do a retroslop avatar the next time I get robux just to piss these people off," garnering over 2,500 upvotes in five days.

On June 19th, TikToker^[8] @elio.aaa posted a video captioned "new ragebait method discovered" in which, dressed in retroslop, he chases a player around a room who keeps saying, "On my mama get this retroslop out of here, bro." The video garnered over 974,000 views in four days.

That day, the video was reposted by X^[9] user @johnrobloxreal, garnering over 4.1 million views and 31,000 likes in four days.

Later on June 19th, 2025, X^[10] user @0ofborg quote-reposted @johnrobloxreal with a reaction image of a kid with a zoomer haircut, using the image to represent the player being chased, garnering over 40,000 likes in four days.

On June 21st, Redditor u/Whatinthewhar made a post to the /r/RobloxAvatarReview^[11] subreddit that looked to define the difference between a true retro avatar and a retroslop avatar, garnering over 600 upvotes in two days.

On June 22nd, 2025, TikToker^[12] @willyandgaming posted a video referencing the influx of hate towards retroslop Roblox avatars, garnering over 2 million views in a day.

That same day, YouTuber^[13] PeepIsAwesome posted a video about retroslop that gained over 200,000 views in a day.
