The slang term "glazing" has taken over TikTok as of late, sparking curiosity as to what it means. Often resembled by donuts or cake getting dripped on, getting called a "glazer" is not a compliment.

The definition of "glazing" is to over-compliment someone or something, usually a celebrity or influencer that the glazer is seemingly obsessed with. Glazing is akin to hyperbolically cringe adoration, resulting in memes that make fun of others for glazing.

Although the meme has found a home on both TikTok and Twitch, its origin is a rather interesting one worth looking into. Let's explain.

Where Does 'Glazing' Come From?

The term "glazing" originates from a Discord server named rigby runtz that two X users named @ratthws and @fooliewitit co-adminned around the time of the term's inception. In direct correspondence with Know Your Meme, the term started within their server in November 2021.

Soon after, usage of the term spread to X, with the first recorded use of the term surfacing in November 2021.

'Glazing' Usage In Memes

"Glazing" memes became commonplace on TikTok going into 2022 and 2023. Many people used the term to identify when one person was over-hyping another person, seemingly in the pursuit of winning their affection. Many people paired the term with videos of donuts being glazed, turning into the main, visual symbol of the trend.

One of the most viral "glazing" memes was the My Glorious King LeBron James trend which made fun of LeBron James super-fans who seemingly took every opportunity to compliment their "glorious king."
