There aren't many parents who will openly admit which of their children is their favorite. However, Zoomers have discovered a simple hack to find the answer that only requires one key piece of information: their parents' password. By simply asking their parents for the Netflix or Disney+ password, a child can potentially determine who the Password Child is, aka the sibling whose name is used in the password, giving them bragging rights for decades to come. Here's everything you need to know about being the password child.

Where Does "Password Child" Come From?

In October 2021, TikToker @kekechanel_ posted a skit to TikTok where, over a distorted selfie, she uses the caption, "Parents: No, we don't have a favorite child." In the next scene, she stands in front of the camera and flexes, no filter, captioned, "The Password." The video gained over 10 million views and inspired two braggadocious videos the next month using the slang term "password child" for the first time.

The term was defined by Urban Dictionary that month and started to see use on Twitter in 2022, even getting coverage by MEL Magazine that May. It remained the most popular on TikTok, where users continued to brag about being the password child, or mourn not being the password child, in comments and videos on the platform.

How Is "Password Child" Used In Memes?

The password child is primarily memed on TikTok. The majority of videos using the term are set to "Rack City" by Tyga and show TikTokers bragging about being the password child as if it gives them royalty status among their siblings. In contrast, some videos show TikTokers mourning their lack of password child status. Some of the most popular of these joke that the user isn't the password child, but rather the reason their mom drinks. Clearly, there are a lot of bragging rights that come with being the password child if you go by these memes.
