What Is The Spaghetti Method?
The Spaghetti Method has gone by many names over the past decade. It was first described by writer Jim Haskins in his 1990 book Voodoo and Hoodoo, which features interviews with folk magic practitioners about their spells.
In 2009, a writer for ThoughtCo detailed a section of the book about the use of bodily fluids in folk magic, specifically talking about how, in the hoodoo ethnoreligion, some believe that putting menstrual blood in food works as a love spell.
In the book, Haskins talks to a person who claims they'd never eat spaghetti made by a woman growing up over fear that it contained her blood.
Word of this spell spread online over the following years, eventually making its way to TikTok in the 2020s under the name "The Spaghetti Method."

The Spaghetti Method became a subject of shock, discourse and memes on TikTok in the 2020s. In most videos about the method, it is simply referred to as "The Spaghetti Method" with no further explanation, enticing viewers to Google it for themselves. Other videos have users reacting to the method, usually with shock and disgust.
The method went viral on the app in early 2025 after a few users posted videos in which they pretended to cry, captioned, "when you tried to do The Spaghetti Method on her but she notices." The most viral of these videos are made by men, implying that the method can also be used on women by mixing something else into the spaghetti sauce.
